NAPILI KAI FOUNDATION AWARDS $51,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS
NAPILI, MAUI, HAWAII: The Napili Kai Foundation has awarded $51,000 in higher education scholarships to 8 Foundation graduates, Lahainaluna High School graduates, alumni, and Napili Kai Beach Resort employee children. The recipients are:
Mekayla Bandy, daughter of a 32-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be returning to UH Manoa as a junior, majoring in Psychology, received $6,500.
Cheira-Emeryl Cappal, daughter of a 19-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be returning to Portland State University, as a junior, majoring in Marketing and Advertising Management, received $6,500.
Gracia Marie Acosta, a 7-year member graduate of the Foundation, will be returning to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as a senior, majoring in Hospitality, received $6,500.
Sarah Nicole Cariaga, a 7-year member graduate of the Foundation, will be returning to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as a sophomore, majoring in Hospitality, received $6,500.
Jasmine Lagazo, a 6-year member graduate of the Foundation, will be returning to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as a junior, majoring in Nursing, received $6,500.
Kayla Mabalot Del-Castillo, daughter of a 13-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be returning to UH Manoa, as a sophomore, majoring in Graphic Design Animation, received $6,500.
Namahina Kawabata, a 12-year member graduate of the Foundation, will be returning to UH-West Oahu, as a senior, majoring in Creative Media, received $6,500.
Chase Imamoto, son of a 19-year employee of Napili Kai Beach Resort, will be attending Cal Poly Pomona, majoring in Computer Engineering, received $5,500.
The Napili Kai Foundation, now 60 years old, is the longest running weekly keiki hula show in Hawaii. The Foundation offers its cultural program free of charge to keiki from 5-18, which includes performing at a weekly show at the Napili Kai Beach Resort. In 1986, the scope of the Foundation’s program was expanded by the establishment of its unique scholarship fund, which has to date distributed $515,000 in higher education scholarships. The scholarships are funded by: JC Millar Scholarship Fund, Bert and Barbara Stubblefield Scholarship Fund, Perna-Rose Foundation for Hope, Felts Family Foundation, Nation Meyer Memorial Scholarship Fund, Ron Cox Memorial Scholarship Fund, Gillian Coder Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Brian and Beverley deLaMothe Family Foundation, Dean and Colleen Dwyer Scholarship Fund, and the Fred and Bettye Betts Memorial Scholarship Fund.
